  • A kitchen where Japan meets the Mediterranean

Japanese Mediterranean Kitchen Design Inspiration with Viefe Hardware

At Enko Group NZ, we believe thoughtful details shape the way a kitchen feels and functions. This refined minimalist kitchen is a beautiful example of understated hardware bringing character and balance into a space. Inspired by both Japanese and Mediterranean design, the result is calm, welcoming and quietly sophisticated.

A Kitchen Where Japan Meets the Mediterranean

This kitchen combines the precision and restraint of Japanese interiors with the warmth and texture often found in Mediterranean homes. Dark timber cabinetry pairs naturally with brushed metal finishes and rustic tilework inspired by traditional Mediterranean ceramics. Every material has been selected to create visual harmony while maintaining practical everyday function.

Natural surfaces, clean lines and carefully curated finishes work together to create depth without overwhelming the space. The result is a timeless kitchen design that feels balanced, intentional and connected to craftsmanship.

Japanese and Mediterranean Design Working Together

The beauty of this kitchen lies in its contrast. Minimalist Japanese styling introduces order, simplicity and stillness, while Mediterranean influences bring warmth, texture and organic character. Together, these elements create a space that feels modern yet lived in.

At Enko Group NZ, we see growing interest in kitchen designs that prioritise both aesthetics and functionality. This project reflects that shift towards interiors that feel calm, tactile and enduring.

Featuring Viefe Brooklyn Handles and Knobs

The Viefe Brooklyn collection in brushed bronze introduces subtle warmth and structure throughout the cabinetry. Its refined profile supports the clean minimalist styling while adding texture and visual depth.

The Brooklyn Big handle integrates seamlessly into the fridge cabinetry, helping maintain a continuous and uncluttered appearance. Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Long handle provides larger cabinet doors with confident proportions and comfortable everyday usability.

These kitchen cabinet handles contribute to the overall balance of the design while reinforcing the understated sophistication of the space.

    Featuring Viefe Megg Walnut Hangers

The Viefe Megg hangers in solid walnut sit naturally within the timber palette of the kitchen. Compact in scale yet rich in detail, they offer practical functionality while acting as sculptural design elements.

The warm walnut finish complements the surrounding materials beautifully, helping reinforce the organic and grounded atmosphere throughout the kitchen.

    Featuring Viefe Low Door Stopper

The Viefe Low door stopper in brushed cava brass may appear subtle, yet it plays an important role in maintaining the calm atmosphere of the space. Designed with a protective black rubber edge, it softens movement and reduces noise, helping create a quieter and more comfortable kitchen environment.

It is a considered finishing detail that supports both practicality and refined design.

Light, Texture and Balance in Kitchen Design

This kitchen captures the balance between East and West, simplicity and warmth, texture and restraint. Its strength comes from carefully layered materials, clean geometry and functional beauty working together without excess.

At Enko Group NZ, we continue to see designers and cabinet makers embrace kitchens that prioritise timeless materials, tactile finishes and purposeful hardware. Projects like this highlight how the right handles, accessories and finishing touches can shape the entire character of a kitchen space.

  • Wabi Sabi Handles by Metakor for Japandi Inspired Cabinet Design

When it comes to cabinetry and interior design, details make the difference. Standardised, highly uniform handles can often feel disconnected from the warmth and character designers aim to achieve in modern interiors.

The Wabi Sabi Collection by Metakor responds to this gap with hardware shaped by natural form, subtle asymmetry, and a calm, considered design language. Inspired by Japandi and organic interior styles, this range brings a more grounded and tactile feel to cabinetry projects.

Designed for Natural, Japandi Inspired Interiors

Wabi Sabi design principles focus on authenticity, texture, and form that feels naturally imperfect rather than overly manufactured. In cabinetry hardware, this translates into soft curves, organic shapes, and finishes that complement timber, stone, and matte surfaces.

The result is handles that feel integrated into the space rather than added on.

    Waltzy
Designed by German studio Byform, Waltzy began as a clay form, capturing the natural movement of hand-shaped design. The result is a handle with a soft, sculptural profile that brings depth and individuality to cabinetry without overpowering the space.

Enko Metakor Stone wabi sabi handle

    Stone

  • Why The Maxim Hotel Chose Our Brooklyn Handle

Maxim Hotel Front Desk - Enko Group NZ

When The Maxim Hotel got in touch, they were looking for more than just hardware. They needed something that could hold its own alongside full-height oak cabinetry, dark walnut finishes, and a high-end interior spec built for longevity. That’s where the Brooklyn handle came in.

Designed by Viefe and distributed through Enko, the Brooklyn was the right fit for the finish, the size, and the feel.

A Handle That Worked Across All Levels

The Maxim Hotel isn’t small. It spans seven floors, with 80 guest rooms, two penthouses, a reception and meeting level, and a full wellness floor featuring a spa, heated pool, steam room, and Himalayan salt sauna.

We supplied Brooklyn handles for use throughout their communal spaces. The brass finish sat perfectly against natural oak tones and darker cabinetry, and the larger sizes gave the joinery the scale and visual strength it needed.

    Why Brooklyn?

    • Architectural lines and a modern form that ties in with clean joinery and minimalist interiors

    • Available in multiple lengths, ideal for everything from wardrobes to full-height doors

    • Brushed Brass Cava finish that works with both warm timber and black detailing

    • Backed by Viefe’s reputation for quality, and available right here through us

Brooklyn delivered on looks, performance, and finish consistency, something that matters on a multi-level commercial project like this.

    The Feedback

The hotel team loved it - so much so that they've now expanded their use of Brooklyn, adding matching robe hooks and door stops across other rooms and future refurbishments.

That kind of repeat specification is the clearest signal a product is performing. When a client goes back to the same handle across phases of a project, it's because it's doing exactly what they needed it to do.
